Delicate Arch

Starting at the Delicate Arch Trailhead, the route leaves the parking area near Salt Wash and follows Delicate Arch Trail past the historic Wolfe Ranch area and the nearby Ute Indian petroglyph panel. From there, it heads into open desert terrain, crossing shallow drainages and moving away from the easier Delicate Arch Viewpoints route.

The path then climbs steadily across broad sandstone slickrock, with the indicated trace bending through exposed slopes, scattered desert vegetation, and rounded rock forms. Trail markers guide the way across the open rock, while the contours on the map show the route gaining height toward the sandstone basin that holds the arch.

Near the end, the trail follows a narrow rock ledge before rounding into the natural amphitheater where Delicate Arch finally appears, standing free against the high-desert landscape. The arch is not visible until the closing approach, making the arrival the dramatic focal point of this classic Arches National Park hike.
